A little surprise in Doha today. After Angélique Kerber and Simona Halep, the two top seed, the tournament lost Eugenie Bouchard after her loss against Saisai Zheng, the one who beat Kerber, in two sets (7/6(1), 6/1) and 1h35 minutes.
Still worrying for Bouchard, who didn’t play well. She’s far away from her best level. No fighting spirit in this match.
A horrible service game for both players. In the first set they each lost three service games ! The Chinese broke first but after two games Bouchard came back in the match (2/2). Three breaks later, the Canadian finaly kept her serve and broke her opponent after to serve for the first set (5/3). Unfortunaly she lost the serve again and the two players had to play a tie-break.
Terrible one for Eugenie Bouchard who score only one point against a strong and powerful Saisai.
After the loss of the first set Bouchard didn’t want to stay more on the court and the games were fast. 5/0 for the Chinese without fight against her. Eugenie won one service game to make Saisai Zheng serve for the win. And no problem for her, no pression to conclude. Great win for her against a poor Bouchard. She will play Petra Kvitova or Jelena Ostapenko in the next round.
For the first match of the day, Carla Suarez Navarro beat Timea Bacsinszky in two sets, 6/2, 6/2.
