Thanasi Kokkinakis will not compete in his home country next month. The Australian took on his Facebook page to announce all of his disappointment to his fans. The 19-year-old, together with compatriot Nick Kyrgios the biggest hope for the future of Australian tennis, has been forced to withdraw from all tournaments to be played in January in Australia, including the first Grand Slam tournament of the year at Melbourne Park.
Here the post Thanasi shared with his fans:
In Melbourne in 2014 Kokkinakis won his first ever match in a Grand Slam main draw in Melbourne, to then start his climbing of the ATP rankings to finish the 2015 season as World No. 80. In 2015 the Adelaide-born also reached his best result in a major, going as far as the third round at the French Open in May.
Hopefully Thanasi will recover in time to participate in the first Masters 1000 tournaments of the season in Indian Wells and Miami.
