Russian-born Australian player Arina Rodionova was beaten by teenager Maddison Inglis 4-6 2-6 falling one match short of gaining a wild-card entry into the Australian Open Main Draw. Rodionova lost the deciding match one day after her wedding with Australian Football player Ty Vickery. Rodionova’s semifinal match was re-scheduled to accomodate her afternoon wedding.
Rodionova won the semifinal of the Australian Open wildcard qualifying tournament against Storm Sanders in three sets with 1-6 6-4 7-5 on her wedding day. The semifinal was originally scheduled for Saturday afternoon, but it was held in the morning with the agreement from the organizers and Storm Sanders.
“Just a good day all round today. I have a few hours to get ready and marry the most amazing guy ever and I am looking forward to it. It was really tough to play today mentally”, said Rodionova after the Saturday’s semifinal.
