The WTA has announced the four nominees for the 2015 WTA Doubles Team of the Year Award. The candidates are Martina Hingis/Sania Mirza, Bethanie Mattek-Sands/Lucie Safarova, Casey Dellacqua/Yaroslava Schvedova, Ekaterina Makarova/Elena Vesnina.
Hingis and Mirza won the Premier Mandatory tournaments at Indian Wells and Miami and in Charleston before losing against Lucie Safarova and Bethanie Mattek Sands at the Roland Garros. They enjoyed a great summer and autumn season in which they won at Wimbledon, at the US Open, at Guangzhou, Wuhan, Beijing and the WTA Finals in Singapore.
Bethanie Mattek Sands and Lucie Safarova won their maiden Grand Slam title at the Roland Garros before clinching two titles on clay in Stuttgart and at the Roland Garros and one on hard-court in Toronto.
Casey Dellacqua and Yaroslava Schvedova won their first title as a team at the Mutua Open in Madrid on clay before losing in the Roland Garros final against Mattek Sands and Safarova. They also reached two more finals on hard-court at Cincinnati and at the US Open.
Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina reached the quarter finals at the Australian Open before reaching the final at Indian Wells, Miami and at Wimbledon where they lost against Hingis and Mirza.
