Johan Van Herck doesn’t see the Davis Cup final over after his Belgian team lost the important doubles rubber to Andy and Jamie Murray of Great Britain in four sets. Speaking to the media after the loss, the Belgian captain revealed the strategy was to have two good baseline players to compete against the Brits, and the final choice in favour of Goffin and Darcis was made in the morning.
Speaking of Belgium’s chances now, Van Herck didn’t see the match as over. “It is going to be a difficult day tomorrow, but we have to stay strong and believe. Not many thought we were going to make it to the final in the semis, and we are going to show tomorrow that we are a strong group and a strong team. We are going to try to solve this together. Anything can happen in Davis Cup”.
Ubaldo Scanagatta also asked to Darcis if he had problems in his arm, considering how it was rumoured he had cortisone injections the day before. “Not true, my wrist is ok. I played normal, but I lost my serve a lot today. I got a little bit tired, but they started to return better” commented Steve Darcis.
David Goffin said he is feeling good despite the 9 sets played. “I will be ready if I have to play 5 sets tomorrow. I am ready to give everything tomorrow, even after the loss in doubles I am still confident” continued the No.1 Belgian.
