Former world number 2 Alex Corretja said that his compatriot Rafa Nadal can win a Grand Slam title in 2016, although the Mallorcan legend will end the 2016 season without winning a single Major or Masters 1000 title for the first time since 2005.
Nadal has showed improving form during the autumn season when he reached two finals in Beijing and Basel (losing to Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer respectively) , lost to Jo Wilfried Tsonga in the semifinal in Shanghai (after beating Stan Wawrinka in the quarter final) and lost to Stan Wawrinka in a marathon quarter final in Paris Bercy which finished at 1.15 am in the night.
“It’s been said Rafa has not a good year buti t hasn’t been said that despite his problems this year, he is still ranked number 6. It means once he is healthy and gets back to winning matches, the confidence will return. When you don’t play for a while, you are bound to lose rhythm and you have some doubts. But when he is healthy, he is still perhaps the strongest guy on the tour. I understand Novak is playing at an amazing level at the moment. But the toughest opponent Novak can have is Rafa in good form. I believe he is going to be ready to win Slams again in 2015”, said Corretja.
