Roger Federer reflected on Andy Murray’s situation and possible choice of skipping the ATP World Tour finals to be perfectly fit to help Great Britain conquering the Davis Cup.

Andy Murray has recently caused a little shock on the tour when he revealed his plans of possibly skipping the ATP World Tour Finals in London – a tournament he has already qualified for – in order to stay healthy and be sure not to face back problems when playing the Davis Cup final against Belgium few days after the season ends at the O2 Arena.

The rules are clear. If Murray were to skip the ATP Finals without a serious reason, he would end up facing large fines. The matter is a very delicate one and Roger Federer himself didn’t really want to go too deep with his thoughts when speaking of Murray’s choice.

Only Andy’s coach, Amelie, knows what is best for him. It is anyways a big dilemma. Andy has to choose considering his own priorities, which event he believes to be the most important to him at his point. Both events are very important for his nation, especially if he wins.”

Last year Federer faced a very similar dilemma and was forced to withdraw from the final match in London due to a back injury. The Swiss came back on court in Davis Cup, to play all rubbers and let Switzerland win the Davis Cup for the very first time in history.

Federer however doesn’t attribute what happens to the change of surface, but rather to a lack of luck. An unfortunate series of events.
