Home boy Roberto Bautista saved up to six match points to overcome Steve Johnson 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (8) in the semi finals of the Valencia Open in just over two hours. The number seven seed continues his fantastic run and will be in his second consecutive ATP final, after losing in the final of the Kremlin Cup just seven days ago.
Bautista was 6-3 down in the decisive tie break but, spurred on by an excited home crowd, managed to claw back and stun Steve Johnson with one of the most exciting finales to a match all season long on the ATP Tour.
In the final, he will meet Joao Sousa who backed up an impressive win over Pablo Cuevas in the semi final with a solid display today against Vasek Posipisil. The Portuguese came out on top 6-4, 6-4 to reach his seventh career ATP final and will, seamingly, have to take on the crowd as well as Bautista tomorrow.
Sousa will be aiming to put an end to a run of four lost finals on tour this season and is buoyed by his 1-o head to head record against the Spaniard, having won their only previous meeting in Umag this year.
