World No.5 Lucie Safarova has confirmed that her planned trip to play in Asia has been cancelled after advice from her doctors.
Safarova had recently spent a week in hospital after suffering from a bacterial infection. The illness resulted in her withdrawing from this week’s Wuhan Open. The 28-year-old hasn’t played since her first round loss to Lesia Tsurenko at the US Open. The Czech has also been plagued with an abdominal injury in recent months. Her decision to withdraw from the Asian swing was confirmed on Czech website Sportovni Noviny.
“Based on consultations with doctors, I decided to cancel the trip to Asia,” Safarova said.
“Today I was running slowly and in a few days I will start practicing on court”. She added.
Czech media have reported that the French Open runner-up will return to action at the Linz Open in Austria. The tournament will get underway on October 12th. She will enter the tournament after being awarded a wild card. Following Linz, she will play in the Kremlin Cup in Moscow, Russia.
Safarova is currently at a career ranking high after a successful 2015. She has reached the final at three tournaments, including the French Open. She won her sixth title earlier this year at the Doha Open.
