TENNIS – Andy Murray overcame a second-set loss to edge Novak Djokovic with 6-4 4-6 6-3 for his second Master 1000 title in 2015 after Madrid, his 11th title in a Master 1000 Tournament and his third win at the Rogers Cup. Murray clinched his 11th win over a World Number 1. Murray has won his first match against Djokovic after eight consecutive defeats since Wimbledon 2013. Diego Sampaolo.
Djokovic lost his fourth match of the year, but he still leads 19-8 against Murray in their head-to-head matches
Murray brought up his first break point chances with a half-volley at 15-30 in the 4th game.
Djokovic saved five break point chances before Murray finally broke serve before holding his serve to open up a 4-0 lead.
Murray earned a double break point chance at 15-40 but he could not convert them. Djokovic broke back in the seventh game.
Murray saved a break point at 4-4 after an hour to hold serve for 5-4. The Scotsman broke serve to seal the win in the first set with 6-4.
Djokovic reeled off the first eight points of the second set to get an early break and held his serve for 2-0. Murray broke back to draw level to 3-3 with cross-court return winner. Djokovic broke again to take a 4-3 lead.
Djokovic held his serve to force the match to the decider.
Murray broke in the second game of the third set and pulled away to 3-0. Murray saved six break points in a fifth game which featured ten deuces to cruise to a 4-1 lead. Murray missed three match points on Djokovic’s serve at 5-2 but he fended off two break points before closing out the match after three hours.
Djokovic, three-time champion in the Rogers Cup in 2007, 2011 and 2012, was chasing his 12th consecutive title at Master 1000 level since losing to Roger Federer in Cincinnati 2012. Djokovic’s winning streak at Master 1000 level which included wins in Paris Bercy 2014 and Indian Wells, Miami, Monte-Carlo and Rome this year came to an end.
Murray dedicated his 11th Master 1000 title to his coach Amelie Mauresmo who gave birth to her first child. With this success, Murray ties Pete Sampras in fifth place for all-time Masters 1000 title winners. Djokovic was bidding for a 25th crown at this level. Rafael Nadal still leads the list with 27 titles.

“I need to make sure I recover from this and get ready and hopefully play a good tournament in Cincinnati. This match will be good physically and mentally for the build-up”, said Murray
