TENNIS- Novak Djokovic beat Roger Federer 6-4 6-3 in the blockbuster final at the Internazionali d’Italia in Rome Diego Sampaolo
Novak Djokovic clinched his fourth title at the Foro Italico, his fourth Master 1000 of the year after Indian Wells, Miami and Monte-Carlo and his fifth consecutive win in the series considerin Paris Bercy last November and extended his winning streak to 22 consecutive matches.
He has not lost since the Dubai final against Federer last February. Nole moved clear of Federer with his 24th Master 1000 title. Rome remains elusive for Federer who finished runner-up in 2003 (losing to Felix Mantilla), in 2006 (losing against Rafa Nadal in a five-set epic match) and 2013 (losing again to Nadal) and in 2015.
Novak Djokovic successfully defended his title in Rome against World Number 2 Roger Federer who earned only a break point in the whole match. The first set went on serve without a single break point until the ninth game when Djokovic faced the first break point of the match but he saved it to take the 5-4 lead.
Djokovic was within tow points from clinching the win in the first set at 15-30 but Federer fended off the break point. Djokovic earned a break point in the final game of the first set with a return winner and converted it on the first set point for 6-4 after 39 minutes. Nole won 36 points to 29 for Federer. He hit 11 winners and won 89 percent of his first serve points . The Swiss legend hit 5 aces to Djokovic’s 3.
Federer saved two break point chances in the second game of the second set at 0-1 with a backhand winner on the second break point down the line but he was broken on the third break point opportunity . Djokovic was on fire in the second set and pulled away to 3-0.
Federer made a double fault at 0-3 before saving a break point for 1-3. Djokovic got the double break in the sixth game for 4-2 He converted the first of his two match points for 6-3 after 75 minutes as Federer hit his forehand wide. Djokovic is now 19-20 in his 39 head-to-head matches.
