Sara Errani claimed her first win of the year and the eighth in her career with a 7-5 6-1 win over Anna Schmiedlova. The Italian star battled past Rising Star Schmiedlova who earned a set point as Errani was serving at 5-4. The first set came down to the tie-break which Errani claimed with 7-2 after a 73-minute marathon first set. The 2012 Roland Garros champion raced to a 4-0 lead en route to a 6-2 win. Errani had to save three match points in her quarter final against Brazilian teenager Beatriz Haddad Maia.
She had not win a title since Acapulco in 2013. Her collection of titles features Palermo and Portoroz in 2008, Acapulco, Barcelona, Budapest and Palermo in 2013.
“The first set was tough. We played more than one hour. We were both fighting hard in that set. She was playing very well and not giving me anything really”, said Errani.
The Italian will move up to Number 12 in the WTA Ranking.
