TENNIS ATP METZ – David Goffin beat Joao Sousa 6-4 6-3 in the final of the Moselle Open in Metz, a ATP 250 Tournament, to clinch the second ATP 250 title of his season two months after his triumph in Kitzbuhel. This year he also won three ATP Challengers in Schevingen, Poznan and Tampere. The World Number 45 from Belgium, who was ranked 113th at the end of 2013, is projected to move up to the 32nd position in the ATP Ranking. Diego Sampaolo
Goffin got an early break in both sets to win in one hour and 14 minutes. He won 81% of his first serve points and fended off four break points he faced. He dropped just six points with his first serve and six points with his second serve
The Belgian player has crowned one of his best weeks of his career in which he beat he beat Jo Wilfred Tsonga in the quarter finals. . He won 34 of his last 36 matches losing only twice against Grigor Dimitrov in the third round of the US Open and against Jerzy Janowicz in the quarter finals in Winston Salem.
Sousa, who saved four match points in the quarter final against Paul Henry Mathieu, played his third ATP final after winning last year in Kuala Lumpur and losing against Pablo Cuevas in Bastad last July. The Portuguese player is projected to reach the 36th place in the ATP Ranking next week.
