TENNIS – Sabine Lisicki upset Sara Errani in straight sets with the scoreline of 6-1 7-5 in the first round of the WTA Premier in Montreal. Diego Sampaolo
German Sabine Lisicki,last year’s Wimbledon finalist, cruised to 6-1 to wrap up the first set with 6-1 in just 26 minutes.
Errani got an early break in the second set to build up a 3-0 lead. Lisicki won three consecutive games to draw level to 3-3. Errani won the next two games to pull away to 5-3 but Lisicki reeled off the next four games broke serve in the ninth game to claw her way her back to 4-5 . Lisicki player held serve in the next game to draw level to 5-5 . broke serve to love to take the 6-5 lead before closing out the second set after 1 hour and 20 minutes.
Lisicki hit 40 winners to 34 unforced errors. Errani produced four winners but she committed 17 unforced errors.
Lisicki grabbed the headlines last week when she hit the fastest serve in history during the match against Ana Ivanovic in Stanford.
In the second round Lisicki will meet either Svetlana Kuznetsova, who won her first title in four years in Washington last week, or Madison Keys.
“I knew it would have been a difficult match, In the first set I got some chances but she reeled off four consecutive games. In the second set I started better winning three consecutive games.However I did not convert too many break point chances”, said Errani.
