TENNIS WTA Stuttgart – A. Ivanovic d J. Jankovic 6-3, 7-5 An Interview with Jelena Jankovic
Can you give me some thoughts on the match? Singles and doubles?
Well, singles was a tough match, two breaks, one in the first set in the second game and another one at 5 all in the second. Basically, it was very close. It could have gone either way. I think I did not serve as well as I did in the previous matches. I had difficulties breaking her. Sometimes I couldn’t read her serve very well. And you know two points here and there didn’t go my way and I lost what I think was a really good match. I think overall it was a very good match.
At the end of the match you saved a match point. What was going through your mind?
Yes, I saved a match point but I did not save the whole match.
Was there anything going through your mind?
I mean you want to save the match point, you want to try to save the match, you want to try to get back into that set and win that second set and get the third. Your main goal is to win the whole match. I have nothing saving one match point and then I lost the other one. You know in that game I fell down and kind of hit my hip and ankle and head and I don’t even know what. So, it was also not easy playing in that condition.
One last question: what is it about Ana’s game that makes it such a hard match?
I don’t know. It’s difficult sometimes to read her game. I don’t know where she’s hitting certain shots. That’s what maybe makes it difficult for me to play against her. Because her shots I don’t know where they go sometimes and it’s difficult to move to the ball and hit my shots. But I think if tactically I did something better it could have been a lot better for me. But I didn’t, so Ana was the better one today.
