When Fabio Fognini was informed of the disciplinary action taken against him by the Grand Slam Board, he was contextually withdrawn from the men’s doubles competition where he had already reached the third round together with his fellow Italian and great friend Simone Bolelli. Given the great relationship between the two (they had been guests at each other’s weddings and they won a Major title together at the Australian Open in 2015), it came as a great surprise to find out that Bolelli had no idea of what had happened: he was practicing together with Andreas Seppi, Horacio Zeballos e Julio Peralta on Court 15 thinking of his doubles match on Sunday. “I don’t know anything – he told Italian reporters who had reached him courtside to have his reactions – I didn’t hear anything from him. I guess there is no point for me to stay in New York any longer, I need to prepare for a tournament in Istanbul. I hope that at least I’ll be able to keep my points and my prize money”.
