Shuai Zhang fought back from one set down to beat Sara Errani 4-6 6-4 7-5 after two hours and 45 minutes to reach the third round at the Miami Open WTA Mandatory.
Errani was the first to break serve but Zhang broke back to 15 in the fourth game as she was leading 2-1. The Italian received medical treatment due to a right calf problem. At 4-4 she broke serve to 15, as Zhang made a double fault on the break point. In the next game Errani won two consecutive points from 30-30 to serve out the first set 6-4, as Zhang made two unforced errors in a row.
Zhang broke twice in the second and sixth games to race out to a 5-1 lead. Errani got both breaks back to claw her way back to 4-5. Zhang recovered from 15-40 on Errani’s serve and got the break with a down the line backhand winner to seal the second set 6-4.
Both players traded breaks twice in the first four games of the third set. From 2-2 Errani won 12 of the next 16 points to get a double break and raced out to a 5-2 40-30 lead earning the chance to serve for the match. Zhang saved the match point and broke serve for 3-5. The Chinese player got two more breaks in the 10th and 12th games to seal the cme-back win.
