A documentary film on Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer named “Watching Federer” will soon arrive on the big screen, according to Swis newspaper Aargauer Zeitung. Swiss producer This Luscher revealed that he came up with the idea several years ago. He had been working on this project since 2010, but he didn’t do anything because Roger’s father Robert Federer initially was not convinced by the project, as he didn’t like the film intended as a documentary.
This Luscher never gave up working on this project but felt that Federer’s story lacked a drama element. This is the reason why a film on the life of the king of tennis has never been made
“A film about Roger Federer is difficult to articulate, as his story lacks the drama”, said Luscher in 2012.
The injury which sidelined Federer for six months and his come-back to the Australian Open where he won his 18th career Grand Slam title last January provided the key element to convince production companies to make this film a reality. The project will be focused on Federer as a person who goes beyond the court and enters the hearts of the people. I find immense happiness when I watch Federer play.
