Novak Djokovic’s purple patch has earned him the nickname of “the unbeatable”. He’s on his way to rewriting the numbers as a triumph at the ongoing Wimbledon will see him shatter numerous records. But for former champion Pat Cash, no player is invincible.
To support his outlook, Cash revealed certain strategies that, if held fast, will help exploit the chinks in the Serb’s much-dreaded armoury.
“The key is to attack him early and attempt to win the point before the rally develops,” the former Wimbledon champion wrote in his column for The Times.
“There are two shots in the Djokovic game that simply don’t match the same superb standard of the rest of his armoury: The first is the volley (and the second) his execution with an overhead,” he added.
Djokovic hasn’t lost a competitive match since going down to Stanislas Wawrinka in the last year’s French Open title-clash. However, Cash believes that playing the shots in right angles can exploit the Serb’s weaknesses on court.
“Give him no angles,” he writes. “At the French Open (2016) there were a few instances when Djokovic was prone to produce an unforced error when attempting to hit the ball down the line on his forehand.”
