2008 Olympic champions Stanislas Wawrinka and Roger Federer have still not conferred with each other concerning their participation in the men’s doubles event at the upcoming Rio Games.
Federer, who won the silver in the singles event at London 2012, will also partake in the mixed doubles category along with fellow Swiss Martina Hingis, besides starting as one of the frontrunners for a podium finish in the singles division.
“I do not know. It doesn’t depend on me,” said Wawrinka during a press conference in London, when asked if he will play the men’s doubles at Rio alongside Federer.
“He will play singles and mixed doubles and (should be) safe from injury. It is a discussion that we cannot do by phone; we will have to meet in person and put all the cards on the table,” he added.
Should the Swiss duo concur on playing together, it would mark their third straight appearance at the Olympics, having previously won the gold medal in Beijing, before a second-round loss ended their hopes of title defense in London.
Meanwhile, the Rio Games are scheduled to be held from August 5-21.
